Our garden club is only as strong as our members engagement and stewardship. While committees are a fun way to get to know your fellow members, it is also an easy way to help neighbors with mutual interests. Upon joining the club you should expect to join at least one of the following committees that can utilize your talents. The expectation is that members will serve a 2-year term in a committee so there is an easy transition year to year.
If you don’t have time to join a committee and still wish to help in some way, consider a donation to the club by clicking the button below.
The Bolton Hill Garden Club is a 501(c)(3) organization as part of the Federated Garden Clubs of Maryland, Inc. All donations made to the Bolton Hill Garden Club are tax deductible, and 100% of the donations are used to support the mission of the club.

Fall Pansy Sale – The members of this committee must be available the second Saturday in October for the Festival-On-The-Hill fundraiser. The Chair or Co-Chairs of this committee is responsible for ordering plants from our valued source in August and coordinating volunteers to work in shifts during the sale (8-11am, 11-2pm, 2-5pm). The Chair or Co-chairs must be available to accept delivery at 8am the day of the sale. This large block party is some of the best that Bolton Hill can offer and a great way to introduce new neighbors to our Garden Club and our greening mission. Rain or shine it is a day filled music, food, and fun.
Garden Walk – This committee is responsible for setting the date, mapping the garden walk, and coordinating volunteers to work this event.
Grants Committee – These members are responsible for collecting greening grant applications from the community and will present their recommendations in April to the Exec. Board for final vote at the May business meeting. They will be tasked to follow up with approved applications by collecting updated photos of projects and receipts for grant reimbursement.
Holiday Greens Sale – This the largest and most visible fundraiser in the neighborhood. It is also the most challenging because of the timing and volume of the sales that take place in a short 6 hours on the first Saturday in December. It takes several days of hard work to make this sale a success. The Chair or Co-Chairs of this committee is responsible for ordering plants from our valued source in July and coordinating volunteers to work in shifts during the sale (8-11am, 11-3pm). The Chair or Co-chairs must be available to accept delivery the day before the sale.
Social Events- These members are our hosts to help with monthly speakers, and to assist our speakers with parking in the neighborhood with a visitor pass.
Membership – This committee is responsible for providing information to prospective members, enrolling new members at club events, maintaining accurate membership records, conducting an annual survey to gather information on member interests, and handling annual membership renewals. Members will also be responsible for the updating, printing, and distributing the annual membership yearbook each year.
Nominating Committee – This group of 5 members have one of the most important tasks of seeking willing members for leadership roles while current officers are rotating off their term obligation. It is the hope that officers will move up in leadership roles but some years are more challenging than others to find willing volunteers. The committee will submit there slate of 7 officers in April for membership vote at the May business meeting.
Programs Committee – This committee is responsible for the calendar and finding speakers, hosts, activities for the following year. The expectation is that our club’s calendar will be filled a good 12 months in advance when possible. Some flexibility is necessary since schedules and meeting locations can change, but this group of members should be coming up with ideas and topics for the club to pursue. The Chair or Co-Chairs will be responsible for updating the posted calendar on the our website.
Spring Plant Sale – The members of this committee must be available the third Saturday in April for this plant sale fundraiser. The Chair or Co-Chairs is responsible for ordering plants from our valued source in March and coordinating volunteers to work in shifts during the sale (8-11am, 11-2pm). The Chair or Co-chairs must be available to accept delivery at 8am the day of the sale.
